Week 6!

Craziness! i've already been here six weeks! actually seven, including marching band camp. ...And I thought time went by quickly in highschool! Last weekend was great! the marching band played at the Colt's game...it was a blast plus the Colt's beat the Browns! I totally missed my alarm clock however, so I didn't wake up until 6:45am, which is the time we were supposed to be on the bus! So all i did was put on my contacts, grab my uniform and piccolo, and sprint all the way to the new music building where the buses were. I was praying the whole time that God would delay the buses. God answered my prayer, and the buses didn't end up coming until 7:15am! I was so thankful to make the bus and not fail the class. Anyway, it was great fun b/c after we practiced on the field we had like two hours to kill, so we walked over to Circle Center and went "shopping." Actually the only store that was opened was a Christmas store, so we had fun looking at funky christmas tree ornaments. oh yeah, and we also at lunch at the food court. When we got back to the RCA dome, Amanda taught me how to do the charleston. it was so much fun jessica got it on videotape! After the halftime show, we changed and returned to campus. I'm also excited about this weekend (friday- Sat.) b/c we're going on a marching band trip to Leo Highschool in Fort Wayne and a festival in Ohio. On Sunday my roommate's parents are coming so we're going to have a cookout to celebrate Nicole's b-day which was actually on Monday. Well, i need to go study for my geog. exam tomorrow. I'd like to leave you with something i read this morning from The Purpose Driven Life that was a big encouragement. "When life gets tough, when you're overwhelmed with doubt, or when you wonder if living for Christ is worth the effort, remember that you are not home yet. At death you won't leave home- you'll go home."

I donated blood!!!

hola! Today was very interesting....all went well until I got to mused. We had a reading log due today, but for some odd reason i thought it was due next Tues. I don't normally forget when assignments are due, so i was kinda mad. so then after class, i went to the computer lab on the first floor and typed up the reading log. My original plan was to practice flute during that time, however God had different plans. I grabbed a quick bite to eat w/ Nicole, Jessica, Rebecca, and Jeanie and then ran over to the Robert Bell building for my computer science lab. I finished the lab early, so i actually had about 50 minutes to practice flute after all! Next i had sightear, and then walked back to my dorm with Amanda. It was sooo nice out today, the sun was shining but it wasn't too hot! When we got inside Botswin we noticed that the Ball Memorial Hospital was there to draw blood. Of course amanda was quick to sign up so i did as well. There was alot of paper work and then we got tested to see whether we had enough iron in our blood. Unfortunately Amanda's was too low, but mine was fine so i was able to donate blood for the first time in my life! It wasn't bad at all! In fact they even gave me a t-shirt, bracelet, juice and cookies afterwards! And that wasn't the end of my unusual day. Nicole and I went to Cru @ what we thought was the right time. So we made the long treck down to Pruis Hall. when we got there, the place looked deserted. So i glanced at my watch again--it was 8:25pm, not 9:15pm! Yeah, so we were almost a whole hour early! So we walked back to our dorm, worked on my spanish essay, and then walked back to Pruis for the second time! Needless to say, I think we both got our excercise for the day! I'm super tired (maybe donating a pint of blood has something to do with it)....tomorrow's Friday, that means i get to sleep in until 8am, no marching band practice, and make cheesecake for Nicole's b-day!!!!! God is so good!

CAUMC is scary at night!

Oh my goodness! Tonight was quite the adventure! Okay, so today was a normal Monday...really busy! I had classes solid until after marching band which ended at 5pm. From there i went to flute studio which lasted an hour and then I went to dinner with Joy Walsh (a really nice flutist!). After dinner we were planning to take a bus to CAUMC (College Avenue United Methodist Church) to practice for flute choir which Joy is just starting since there are a bunch of us that play the flute and thought it would be fun! So while we were waiting for the bus to pick us up, we saw tons of lightening and it was super windy too, kinda scary. When we got to the church it started raining and thundering. We went to the auditorium for rehearsal but it was totally creepy b/c the lights weren't on and all the hallways were dark. We were freaked out! Also, the main door kept opening on its own and we heard a bunch of ominous sounds! So we finally ended up practicing in a different room and got the lights to work. fun night! this week is going to be awesome b/c the marching band has two trips. The first one, on Wed, is a Parade an hour north, and the second is the Colt's game on Sunday! i think i actually enjoy football games now!
Now the highlight of my night...practice singing major and minor scales for sightear tomorrow!

Yeah for Thursday!

This week is going rather slowly, esp. compared to last week. However I was really excited when I found out that two of my classes were canceled for today!!! My Mused 100 class was canceled b/c my prof. is at a music conference in South Carolina. Sightear was canceled b/c my prof. is sick and so is his wife, who's in the hospital. It is so great to only have two classes today! I already had geog. at 8am. my next class is my computer science lab at 12:30pm, and then the lecture is tonight at 6:30. Last night I went to bible study here at Botsford. It was really good! We discussed "who is Jesus Christ?" and why many people don't believe in God b/c they would rather not face the fact that we are going to be held responsible for our actions. I realized that my relationship with God is not where it should be because i tend to place people as my first prriority. Even when i go to Cru and church it is for the social aspect and God is second. It's like when i have no one else to talk to, then i turn to Christ. I realized that my view of Christ is so warped! In revelation John fell on his face upon seeing Jesus in all His glory. I can't think of a time i've ever fallen on my face in total fear and reverance for Christ. So anyway, this is just something i'm working on- having an accurate view of Christ. I find it so beyond my comprehension how He knows me down to each hair on my head but at the same time He is controlling the entire universe! It makes my brain hurt! ...that also has to do with the fact that I went to bed really late last night (my room mate and i were watching "Notorious" w/ Cary Grant).
I'm excited about this weekend! Tomorrow there's no marching band rehearsal- we'll probably watch a movie or something. Saturday is mud v-ball and Nicole and i are both playing. I'm also planning to go see the MSO (muncie symphony orchestra) Sat. night. Sunday is church, MENC (music educators national conference) picnic, and swimming!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
~Tirzah, how was your trip to D.C? ttyl

Phantom is awesome!

hey ya'll! In case you didn't know, tonight was "Phantom Night"....yeah, a bunch of us went to the triple on my floor and watched Phantom of the Opera and ate sour gummy worms (a tradition here). It was really hard not to sing along b/c a couple of the girls hadn't seen it before. It's a good movie, although it's made us laugh when Christine didn't change her "deer in the headlights" facial expression throughout the entire movie. Anyways, so after the movie we drank frozen apple juice that Amanda (my flutie/ sightear buddy) brought over! We're convinced that she spiked it, cause we were all super hyper for the next hour or so. Then my room mate and i walked Rebecca back to her dorm (Woodworth) b/c Friday nights can be rather freaky when you're walking alone. Tomorrow Nicole and i desperately need to do laundry, and then I'm going with Jessica to practice with her churches' worship team. At 4:45pm i have to meet with the marching band at Lafollete field for rehearsal in uniform!!!! It's gonna be toasty! The kickoff isn't until 7pm though. I'm excited about playing in my first game, but also a tad worried b/c we didn't accomplish very much in rehearsal tonight. There was a lifeline helicopter that had to land unexpectedly in the field halfway during practice. sunday, the plan is to go to church with Jessica, work on homework, and then go swimming! college is great what can i say? Well, it's getting late and i think i'm finally winding down. Btw, Tirzah--i hope you have an awesome trip to D.C. I can't wait to hear all about it!!!!! XOXO

Yeah for a three-day weekend!

Wow, I finally have time to start my new blog! Even though college life can be quite busy, it is great to take a break from all the writing...and write some more! Though I'd much rather write my blog than read about the philosophy of music and write a 5 page summary.
I can't believe that i've already been at BSU for three whole weeks! The first week I had marching band camp...more like basic training. We mostly worked on all our marching blocks and formations as well as memorizing about 20 different songs. Our first home game is this Sat. and I still need to memorize about three more songs. Marching band is so much harder than at Faith b/c we march in all different directions, including backwards! It's great though, esp. the flute section! I know our football team could use some improvement but feel free to come and support the "Pride of Mid-America" marching band! I'm also excited b/c we get to play at a Colt's game on Sept. 25!
God has certainly answered my prayers and allowed me to meet many Christians, including my roommate Nicole. She's an architect major--I think she's actually more busy than I am!! Most nights she doesn't even get to our room until around ten or eleven. But she's alot of fun, plus she's tall and blonde!
Other than my music classes (mused, theory, sightear, flute studio, recital hour, marching band, and wind ensemble) i'm also taking Spanish composition, geography 121, and computer science for dummies! It's pretty sad when I have to show someone in lab how to open their folder!
Even though my schedule is rather loaded I have been able to go to Campus Crusade the past two thursday nights. It is awesome!! It has been really well attended with over 400 students, many of them freshmen! We sing alot of worship music, and listen to great speakers. I'm also involved in my hall's bible study. We meet every Wed. night at 9:15. This has been a good way to meet Christians in my living community.
Another really cool thing is that even though I don't have a car, God has been faithful to provide transportation. So far Nicole and I have had to make two Walmart runs, and another friend of ours, Danny's parents took us all out to eat at Applebee's last weekend! Oh, and Bethany Viars took me to Bank One to set up my bank account and drove Nicole and I to visit Grace Baptist (Heritage Hall) last Sunday. She's the best!
It has been so incredible to see God answer prayer these past three weeks! He has helped me each step of the way from surviving marching band camp (and the sun burns that come with it) to buying my books, finding my classes, and meeting many strong Christians too! I was reading 1 Peter for my devos and they were a great encouragement to me during my first week of school and starting out on the right foot.
Well, I have to do some homework- some of my prof's actually gave us homework over the holiday! I hope everyone has a great Labor Day!
